Color Management
- Profiles should be embedded in the images and documents
- RGB Images should be moved into Adobe RGB 1998.icc color space then converted to CMYK
- CMYK conversions from RGB should be done using the convert to profile command with the Lawton Profile from the Adobe RGB space
- Our Profiles are available in the drivers section
Document
- Transparencies need to be flattened
- Items on the pasteboard should be removed
- Unused colors removed
Fonts (Use program to collect fonts if possible)
- Screen and Printer Fonts for document and linked resources
- Problem and Truetype fonts in drawing programs may be converted to paths
- Use the printer font for bold and italic, avoid doing this from the style menu
- Multi-Master Fonts are not always dependable
- Suitecases should not be reused to store TrueType Fonts
Images
- Bitmap Images should be saved as CMYK ..eps or .tif format
- Try not to nest .eps files
- Unused Alpha Channels, Layers and Paths should be removed
- Scanned Tones should be at 300 DPI
- Scanned Line Art should be at 600 DPI
- Quark users should not use the Fit to Window keyboard shortcut
- Images should be flattened if possible
Bleeds
- Should extend 1/8 inch past the page trim
Page Size
- Should represent the final printed size
- The page size of a project should be correctly relayed to your Service Agent
Color
- Colors should be CMYK builds and Pantone Colors for the spot definitions
- White in documents and .eps files should be defined with 0Y 0M 0C 0K
- Picture Boxes in Quark should be set to none
Names
- Should not include any special characters and end in .tif or .eps
, . ; : / \ ! ? should not be used, it causes conflicts in our Imposition Equipment
Proofs
- Composite and separated Lasers should be sent
(Very important so we can match our output to yours)
Collecting the Job
- Make sure you send all the files needed to print your job
- Be careful with fonts and graphics in nested eps files
- Use the reports in Quark and PageMaker to help gather missing elements
- Quark and Freehand users should use the collect for output function
- PageMaker users should use the Save for Service Provider plug in
Remember your job will be delayed until we have missing files or fonts.
Transporting the Job
You may transport the job on any of the media described on the Commercial Page.
In addition jobs may be electronically transferred to us.

- Click the secure log-in. Then enter -
User Name = LAnonymous
Password = Lawton
- Click the Browse button and then locate your file
- When the file is located choose the file to return to the main window and click Upload
- WAIT for the finished page to appear in your Browser
- Files still need to be Bin Hexed if they are a Macintosh file
- Windows files should be Zipped
- Private Accounts available on request

PDF Setup
- Quark - produces a high quality PDF file using the Jaws.
- InDesign - natively creates high quality PDF files for print.
- Distiller - Please use distiller but not PDFWriter to create your PDF files.
